The Bucket

My fellow seniors and I feel we were cheated out of the bucket not once but twice in our high school careers which is unprecedented because the field day games are usually rigged so that the seniors win. Even if they don’t win with points from the events the judges just give them enough spirit points so that they finish first. On one hand, I don’t really care because the bucket isn’t really an honor to have in your possession. All winning gives you is bragging rights. One the other hand, I am mad that we lost because the judges didn’t give us enough spirit points to overcome the juniors. But the judges did give the seniors enough spirit points to win when we were sophomores and at the end of the events we were up by around 100 points. This year we only lost by 5 points which begs the question “They couldn’t give us 10 more points?” In conclusion, I know some people are heartbroken over this but I’m not going to lose any sleep over it.

Fair and square, we were cheated out of the bucket (or shall I say not cheated) this year. Every single year the seniors win the bucket because the judges have always given enough spirit points to the seniors to jump the class they are behind. It happened to us sophomore year and that is why this up roar has been so big. We were dominating everyone by at least 100 points that year but when it came down to spirit points (which they say you can only receive 100 of) we were somehow leap-frogged by the seniors. I guess we received negative spirit points? This also happened our freshman year but not to us. By my calculations the juniors for sure had the lead but those pesky spirit points put the seniors first. The spirit points are a completely bias because there is no set-in-stone way to give them out so they normally give the seniors however many they need to win. We as a class have accepted this system because we have seen it happen 2 out of the 3 years we have been participating so when it became our turn to be given the bucket, we were ready. Then, all of a sudden, they called the junior’s name and were in shock. Weren’t they supposed to give it to us? And we were only down by 5 or 10 points so it wouldn’t have even been that big of a deal. That is why most seniors are extremely mad is because we had to accept a standard our whole high school careers but when our turn came, they stripped the standard away. It was Busch league judges, pure Busch league.

What a great year to get shafted for us too. Our grade is going to be known now the group of seniors that didn’t take home the bucket. That’s ridiculous that we were cheated out of the Stanly cup of spirit week. I can’t comment too much though on the events, or how we did because I was not in attendance for the spirit week games. Sadly, I was forced to leave school due to a slight chronic pain located what felt like my sternum ha. One thing I noticed though during spirit week, wearing a toga is cool and all, but those things were a pain to keep on all day fitting the way you pined them accordingly. I feel that if students came to school dressed up as privet parts the kids would get a much bigger kick out of it, togas are getting old.
