Homecoming 08
This year’s homecoming was the best Groves dance I have ever been too. It was too crowded to enforce the “Face to face, leave some space” rule so everybody got to dance however they wanted. Mrs. Hurley on the other hand was not so fond of this year’s dance calling it the “Worst dance to supervise ever.” When I heard that the dance was going to be in the hallway by the pool I thought this was going to be the worst dance because it was going to be so crowded but it ended up being the tightly packed crowd that made it the best. There were only two negative aspects for us were that it got so hot out on the dance floor and that if you went too far down the hall you couldn’t hear the music anymore. I am sure that they will be able to fix these two problems if they choose to have future dances in that hallway.

I have to agree with Whebe on this one. I heard that the dance was going to be in the pool hallway this year and I was a little skeptical. I thought that the dance would be terrible because there would not be any room to maneuver around the dance floor and just getting from place to place would be hard. And it was. But with these bad things, there also were factors that I hadn’t thought about that made the dance better than I thought it would be. The reason that kids don’t come to the school dances is because you can’t dance the way you want to. With everyone packed together like sardines, the administration couldn’t put the cabosh on our style of dancing. We had to on top of one another because we had no choice. The whole setup of the dance was bad in my opinion, but the only real factor is the dancing because that’s what you do 90% of the time you are there. If dances were more like this I think a lot more people would end up coming.
I personally Had no idea the dance was going to be held in the pool hallway. It sounds like a terrible idea though. I have never understood why our dances just don’t take place in the gym? Here we have this huge brand new gym, that was being unoccupied during Homecoming, and yet the dance was still held in the hall ways that students rush through, feeling crammed and thinking “damn, im going to be tardy again”. I didnt attend the Homecoming dance for a number of reasons. For one, it’s always boring, and turns out to be almost a waist of time. The music sucks!! My freshman year I attended the Homecoming dance and felt like I paid just to be bunched together with a bunch of small awkward annoying underclassmen, while hearing the song “yeah” by usher every other track that was played. I couldn’t wait to leave that night, and get to the after party, where I had a wonderful time. Not at lame school dance. I for one have never been into the school dance scene myself, and hearing about this years passed homecoming being somewhat of a “flop” I happy I had other plans last Saturday night.
